About

This blog is solely the work of Michael Vernetti, and is not connected with Saint Mary’s College or its athletic department in any way.

I am a graduate of Saint Mary’s and a follower of its basketball team since the 60s. For several years I have been the West Coast Conference correspondent for rushthecourt.net, an online basketball web site. For the past three years I have written a preview of the WCC season for USA Today Sports, which, unfortunately, is available only on newsstands. This blog is my first effort concentrating only on Saint Mary’s.

Needless to say, the comments, observations, predictions, etc. are mine alone. Please feel free to use the comment section to tell me what you think.

  1. Great analysis and preview of the Gaels, let’s hope they can defeat a tough Cal team next weekend! Go Gaels!

  2. Great piece. For my two cents, as an annual WCC tournament attendee, the Las Vegas disaster, and collapse of the last 30 days, was more than no Pineau.
In truth this group over achieved early and ran out of gas late. You can’t compete at this level with no bench – and the Gaels essentially had no bench. The loss of Rahon exposed Naar as a very good complementary player unable to duplicate the speed, skill and competitiveness of his former running mate. Jordan Ford blossomed and carried them – but the lack of overall athleticism, Landsdale’s near invisibility and the growth of Gonzaga’s young players doomed them.
